Curriculum Intent
The intent of the Music curriculum at Fareham Academy is designed to enable students to develop high levels of aural perception, promote creativity and personal expression and build confidence through performance. Music can be used as a tool to help students develop transferable skills that can be applied in other areas of their learning. The Music curriculum provides opportunities to explore different musical genres from around the world as well as music from the British Isles. A world of people, places, cultures and history. SMSC, Numeracy and Literacy are firmly embedded within the Performing Arts curriculum through topics and schemes which include a range of styles and cultures from the British Isles. The life skills that are developed, and are at times explicitly taught, are an integral part of the development of the subject specific skills as well as creating well-rounded individuals. Core skills such as problem solving, perseverance, diligence, team work, time management, organisation, responsibility, cultural history, listening skills, confidence, social skills, discipline, self evaluation, interpersonal skills and a sense of achievement help students develop skills that will prepare them for progression into higher education and employment. Students are offered a range of opportunities to develop their musical experiences through extra-curricular activities by participation in concerts, productions and attending musicals.
