Curriculum Intent
The BTEC Tech Award in Child Development is a practical introduction to life and work in the early years industry. The curriculum focuses on the learning, development and care of children from birth to five years. Our aim is to provide students with both the theoretical knowledge of child growth and development and the applied technical and professional skills through first hand experiences in early years settings.
In the UK, there are approximately two million childcare places for children aged under five and many different types of early years settings, ranging from childminders and nannies, to nurseries, crèches and preschools. Knowledge of child development is also important in a variety of healthcare roles such as paediatricians, psychologists, occupational therapists and speech and language therapists.
The Early Years and Child Development sector is a growth employment route within Hampshire - employment rates are 11% above national average. We are proud that many of our alumni progress into Child Development routes for Post 16 study, which results in employment.
The BTEC Tech Award in Child Development allows learners to acquire transferable skills that can be used within the sector and the wider environment.
